Republicans have sold there patriotism to Big business( including religious wing)and this could happen to any other party. JOhnnie, Yes, I am still talking to you, of course. Just have been extremely busy. I re-read your 'metaphor' and have some thoughts. Some seemed appropriate, liked the analogy of the gun, Bush and the child. But, will share my thoughts, in the future, regarding Gore and Kerry, being the 'stranger'. The vision of them with wide open arms just don't feel right to this gal. I truly love metaphor. Favorite kind of books. Try Ursula K. LeGuin's 'Left Hand of Darkness.' Very beautiful story with many levels of meaning. But will share my perceptions, such as they are, soon! Have a full weekend. You might not know this but am a Grandma, many times over, and football playoffs this weekend. My little guy is the quarterback! 14 TD's this season and has kicked a couple of field goals. Thank you night for your explanation to your post and as you indicated your information came from sources at the peak of the change of the Health System in Canada, which in effect was almost 10+ years and you are also right with the differences in the provinces since in Quebec we are considered a distinct society. I think when it comes to programs we can learn form each other and in some ways to lessen the waiting times our government is looking into privatizing some sectors of the Health industry such as Cosmetic Surgery whiich is partially covered by our insurance but is taking up a large portion of our surgery rooms...as I stated i wanted to clear up some of the misconception of free health care and show the pros for it ....in the end the ones who benefit the most is the poor and senior citzens and I'm a strong advocate for more social programs ...so we do have a few things in common...but once again thanks for the clarification...and it will be interesting to see the change that shall come from the new power in the states cause as we all know ...we canadians do follow what our neighbours to the south do, since we are not only linked by geography but also by politics.

My comments came from information I gathered from many conversations over a several year period with these women. My friends came here as they could get jobs in California; they wished to relocate due to difficulty finding jobs in Canada in their communities; and these women did perceive health care to be better where we worked in an Intensive Care Unit in California. I did not claim first hand knowledge nor did I imply that. You are right. Our education of nurses is one of our big problems in America. We do not have enough nursing programs and there are long waiting times. You are right, also, in that the middle class here is often the group of people who suffer the most without health care while we give it away to visitors. In the 2004 election I did talks to promote a bill for Health Care for all. (It failed because the voters are not ready for it and insurance companies and big business fought so hard against it.) It is much needed, as often disease processes go on for lengthy periods of time before the un- or underinsured seek help due to the financial burdens they fear creating for themselves. Unions have fought hard to get more time off for new Mom's ( and in some places Dad's) That is wonderful that your country grants that time. We could learn from that here. That time spent bonding with infants and toddlers could only improve our communities and create better family life here. I could go on and on about the deficits in health care in America but there are many strengths. I work in a health care model with a large number of prevention programs that physicians come from many countries to view so they can take back the 'systems' to their homes to impliment them. Have been in health care for 30 years so work daily with people with chronic conditions. So again, I agree with you, there are pros and cons to every system of health care delivery.

I can't comment on the Bush discussion but i would like to shed some light on the Health Care system comming from a Canadian. To night who stated that the American Health system is superior, I take offense..Yes, there are long waiting times for patients but at least my parents do not need to worry about their health in their senior years..nurses and doctors do go to the states for better pay which I do acknowledge but education is cheaper here, especially in Quebec, and the shortage of nurses is not as large as the number in the states ...I do have family members in the states and one is a ob/gyn and he claims for a cesearan it costs 10 grand .... we don't have that problem here, drugs are cheaper and effective and one of the best medical schools in North America is Mcgill University and it's located in Montreal....in every system there are problems, just as in your own, you find that quite a large number of middle- class Americans live without medical insurance...as soon as you become a landed immgrant in Canada, you are given free health care, it's one of the benefits that you receive...and may i ask you something ...in Candada, especially in Montreal do you know you get 1 full year paid maternity/paternity leave,(it's the law, whether you just started working in a company or not) do you have that?....if I get sick anywhere in the world do you know that our medical insurance pays for it? I do not have to pay a dime.. do you have that?...if i leave montreal and go to any other province i have the same free benefits...do you know that the birth control pill is covered by our insurance? Look i'm not saying that our system is better, it has it's faults but for you to remark that yours is superior is condescending, everything has it's cons and pros, but I would rather be in my old age, be able to walk in any clinic regardless of my income and have the same benefits as everyone...

1) The second election--you have a guy from Connecticut who wears a cowboy hat and he's supposedly more of a cowbow then a guy from Texas. {most would agree this is a masculine image}.////////The candidate Kerry is the most 2 faced, waffling, CANT MAKE IT CLEAR WHERE HE STANDS.{this is kind of feminine,right?} What Im saying is that for the second election masculinity won for good or for bad, and many {especially people in the midwest} can relate to that. Also the great tactic was to raise this countries amount of terrorism fear just before his second election. Jimmy Carter who had one of the higher I.Q.s. for president may go down as a fair president. But he was not known for being "dangerous".

Here's a parable with a few metaphors to sum up Bush's presidency...In this story Bush is the Gun, You are the mother, the child is America and Gore or Kerry can be the stranger.
One day a stranger came up to a mother in a poorly lit place, full of misery and distrust. He unknown to the mother, was trying his best to help her out of this place, but she could not tell the difference between him or any other person in the area, so she decided to pull her gun. With the gun being camouflaged and it being poorly lit, the stranger continue to approach with open arms. The woman fired the gun two times wounding the stranger but one of the stray bullets hit an innocent child and killed him instantly. When the investigators came and shed some light on what really had happen the woman was later charged with attempt murder and murder. Her lawyers claimed self defense (the best defense is a good offense), while the prosecutor stated that deadly force was excessive and not necessary. The jury ruled while they understood the mothers dilemma, she was guilty.They thought if she had just tried to see this more clearly, a child would be alive today and the stranger would not be suffering for trying to help her... by:johniejr3d

Although Kerry did state he had a health plan, even many of the Democratic supporters said he lost the election due to 'lack of a plan' in the middle East. He also supported us going to Iraq; remember he flip-flopped there, too. I wasn't aware of any clear cut budget plan. Seemed to me there was a lot of waffling there, too. Kerry did not seem well respected as a military man. People who fought with him were the ones who stood up and said he got his kudos unfairly. He initially tried to use his military career to boost his image, until those by his side showed he did not deserve much respect there. I work in Health care and have been a Union activist; predominantly a very liberal organization. I have also worked with a lot of Canadian nurses and nurses from other countries who come here because, although we have many flaws, there are many greater problems in socialist medicine. The waiting time for care can indeed be bought there. And people in great need often wait far longer there (Canada) than they do here. Universal Health Care for all is a wonderful ideal, but many bugs need to be worked out before it can be implimented. Nurses come here from many countries because there are jobs in this country, and although most hospitals are understaffed and there is a shortage, and many flaws, it is a superior system to most countries. Kerry only said he would promote health care for all; he did not have an implimentation plan at all; not to mention one that was viable. If so, please send me the report, and I can forward it to my Union which has been working on this for years. They would treasure a working plan. And yes, Clinton left a mess in terms of morale in this country. Are you trying to say that the Lewinsky mess showed an 'honest' man in the White House. There are thousands of written documents that show a lack of 'honesty'. That wasn't 'cheating'? , stains, cigars; doing another woman by our country's leader who happened to be a married man. Now many politicians have had affairs. It is simply that he got caught, and blatantly lied about it. And then tried to manipulate the world into what constitutes I do not support many of Bush's policies, but I am not blindsided either. We will not agree on the war. I have read your blogs. I, like many, think going in was for the right reasons; the stated ones. Again, Kerry agreed at the time of the decision and most likely would have done the same. I think the person with the most answers is Michael Savage. I doubt you would agree with him either. I would like to hear you and he have a discussion on the air. If you decide you would like to, let me know when you are going to call. I wouldn't miss it for love nor money.
